« Refurbished GPS Units Are Great Deals   Consolidation for Efficiency »

by Jack Spencer

Getting a phone call on a repeated basis and not knowing who it is that is calling you can be rather frustrating. The fortunate thing is, you’re not left without things that you can do about it and the area code that is calling you can be one of the most telling things of all.

These came about as a result of the phone company splitting up and going with the numerical system instead of the old system that they were using. At that time, they began to assign these three digit codes to various areas of the country, although they did not use all of the available area codes at that particular time. For that reason, each area of the country has its own area code and at times, more than one.

The population soon overtook the existing area codes so additional area codes were added into the mix. As a result of this, you might find that one particular area of the country has multiple area codes assigned to it but other areas of the country have a single area code that might incorporate an entire city. If there are enough telephones within the area, an area code will be assigned which will allow for future growth as well.

Cell phones have also added to the number of area codes that are in use, especially considering their popularity. Some of the area codes that were assigned are done so specifically for use with cellular telephones and they are getting used up rather quickly. Fax machines are also something that are using up area codes quickly as most businesses have at least one dedicated fax line. That is why it is not always a matter of simply looking up the area code to see where the call is coming from.

If there is one thing that you are able to distinguish from the area code, however, it’s the area that the individual is located whenever they were placing the call. This is often a region of the country, although it may span across state lines in some cases. The areas in which these area codes are used are becoming increasingly smaller, however, because of the number of land lines that are in use across the country. It can help you to have a rough idea of the calling area.

The other seven digits of the telephone number give you the specifics about the town or area of the town in which the individual is calling and the exact person that is calling you. If they are calling you from a land base line, it is possible for you to do a search on the Internet and find the information rather easily. Cellular telephones tend to suppress this information in order to keep privacy issues in check.

At the very most, you will have to pay a small fee in order to find out who it is that has been calling you. This is only done whenever the information is not available publicly and you really need to find out who it is that is calling. Fortunately, the fee is negligible and it is a guaranteed way for you to find out the person behind the number.
